VAL THORENS, France (AP) — Jean-Frederic Chapuis won a ski cross World Cup on the course bearing his name while Anna Holmlund secured a second freestyle win in two days in the French Alps on Saturday.
The course in Val Thorens has been named after Chapuis, who claimed the Olympic title in Sochi in 2014 but had never been able to win at his home resort so far.
After a disappointing exit in the quarterfinals on Friday, Chapuis bounced back with a convincing win in the final over Thomas Harasser and the in-form Christopher Del Bosco.
Chapuis said "to share this with the people of Val Thorens and the fans is just perfect."
Olympic bronze medalist Anna Holmlund won the women's race over local favorite Alizee Baron of France, after both Andrea Limbacher and Heidi Zacher crashed before the first jump.
