DuPont Warns 4Q Earnings Lower
Jan. 15, 2003
WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) _ DuPont said Wednesday its fourth-quarter earnings may be lower than projected due to lower than expected operating results in the second half.
The company said it expects to earn between 31 and 33 cents per share for the last three months of 2002. The consensus forecast of analysts surveyed by Thomson First Call was for earnings of 33 cents a share for the quarter.
DuPont said pre-tax operating results in the second half were lower than expected. Company spokesman Clif Webb refused to say whether the lower results were due to lower sales or higher operating costs.
``Late in the quarter, business results softened a bit,'' Webb said, declining to go into further detail.
DuPont, however, said it expects the weakness in operating profits will be largely offset by a further reduction in the income-tax rate.
DuPont said it will provide further details on its fourth quarter and full-year 2002 results on Jan. 28.
