FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) _ Backup John Williams' 69-yard TD run in the fourth quarter gave Texas Christian some breathing room as the Horned Frogs beat UNLV 42-34 Saturday in the Western Athletic Conference.
The scoring run was one of two touchdowns for Williams, who carried 11 times for 111 yards for TCU (3-5, 2-3 WAC).
The loss was the 12th in a row and the 13th straight on the road for UNLV (0-10, 0-6).
The Rebels led 14-13 at the half but TCU fullback Lance Williams ran 7 yards for a touchdown early in the third quarter, capping a 69-yard drive and giving the Horned Frogs the lead for good at 19-14.
Down 27-14, UNLV threatened late in the third quarter when Tim Black forced John Washington to fumble after a pass reception. Carlos Hillard returned it 35 yards for a touchdown, narrowing the deficit to 27-21.
The Horned Frogs were forced to punt on their next possession, but UNLV fumbled the ball away.
After trading punts, TCU made it 42-21, only to have UNLV score two touchdowns in as many minutes to whittle the deficit to 42-34 with 2:39 left.
TCU freshman punter Royce Huffman came up with UNLV's onside kick. Michael Reeder missed a 35-yard field goal, but UNLV's final possession came up short as Damon Williams was tackled at the 9 as time expired after catching Denton's 43-yard pass.
On UNLV's first play, Denton lobbed a short pass to Todd Floyd, who outran two defenders 80 yards for a touchdown.
Basil Mitchell ran 21 times for 151 yards and Jeff Dover and Fred Taylor combined to complete 19-for-24 for 188 yards and a touchdown for TCU.
Denton was 26-for-47 for 382 yards and three touchdowns.
