White Sox Recall Simmons

CHICAGO (AP) _ The Chicago White Sox recalled outfielder Brian Simmons from Class AAA Charlotte on Wednesday and optioned first baseman-outfielder Jeff Liefer to Charlotte.
Simmons, 25, was hitting .270 with 10 homers, 53 runs and 44 RBIs in 78 games for the Knights. Over his last 20 games, he batted .333 with four homers and 19 RBIs. He started the 1999 season on the disabled list with a hand injury suffered in spring training.
On Sept. 26, 1998 at Kansas City, Simmons became the third player in club history to homer from both sides.
In 39 games with Chicago, Liefer, 24, batted .237 with no home runs and 12 RBIs. He has not started since July 1.
