Wisc. Man Found Alive After 2 Days
Sep. 30, 1998
DOUSMAN, Wis. (AP) _ A mentally disabled man who disappeared over the weekend wearing Green Bay Packers pajamas and without the medication he needs for his epilepsy was found alive Tuesday.
Thomas Reinders, 27, hadn't been seen since he walked away from his foster home about 10:30 p.m. Saturday. He was listed in critical condition Tuesday at Froedtert Memorial Hospital in suburban Milwaukee.
Family members said he has the mental capacity of a 5-year-old and requires medication to keep his epilepsy in check.
Sheriff's Capt. Tom Lentz said a Coast Guard helicopter spotted Reinders about 3:15 p.m., in an area about a mile and a half from the foster home.
Hospital spokeswoman Pat Crowley said Reinders was dehydrated and had a low body temperature _ overnight lows in the area had been in the 40s.
It would be several days before doctors could determine whether Reinders suffered any long-term damage, Crowley said.
