Support for Madrid Olympic bid reaches 91 percent
Sep. 05, 2013
MADRID (AP) — The Madrid bid committee for the 2020 Olympics says a poll indicates public support for the games is at 91 percent with the final vote only two days away.
The poll of 2,000 people was conducted by phone. It has a margin of error of 2.2 percent.
The International Olympic Committee will meet Saturday in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to decide by secret ballot whether Madrid, Istanbul or Tokyo will host the 2020 Games.
This is the third straight time Madrid has tried for the Olympics. Once a long shot due to the country's ongoing recession, Madrid's chances have improved in part because of its thrifty budget proposal.
