Woman gets probation in North Carolina hit and run death

GRAHAM, N.C. (AP) — A 78-year-old woman has been placed on probation for a hit and run death last year in North Carolina.
The Times-News of Burlington reported Barbara Bigelow Wyatt of Greensboro entered an Alford plea Monday in the death of 23-year-old Christopher Scott Askey of Mebane last September.
An Alford plea does not admit guilt but concedes there is enough evidence for a conviction.
Wyatt was placed on probation for three years and is forbidden from driving under the plea in Alamance County Superior Court on Monday.
The plea involved charges of misdemeanor death by vehicle, felony hit-and-run resulting in serious injury and driving without liability insurance.
Defense attorney David Remington said Wyatt did not know she had hit Askey and turned herself in later when she found out what happened.
