RIGBY, Idaho (AP) — An eastern Idaho man shot in the lower abdomen with a shotgun while trying to burglarize a home and shoot the owner has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
The Post Register reports (http://bit.ly/2ghteJq) that 33-year-old William Shinkle of Victor received the sentence Monday in 7TH District Court and must serve five years before becoming eligible for parole.
Authorities say that during the burglary near Rigby in October 2016 Shinkle fired multiple shots at the homeowner with a handgun but missed. The homeowner's teenage son then returned fire with a shotgun.
Shinkle later pleaded guilty to charges that included aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a controlled substance.
Judge Alan Stephens also ordered Shinkle to pay about $7,300 in restitution to the victims.
