AUBURN, Ala. (AP) _ Trey Gainous' triple scored Rock Wilson with the winning run in the bottom of the tenth inning Monday night to give the Auburn Tigers an 8-7 college baseball victory over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
Gainous leads the Southeastern Conference in triples with nine. His game- winning hit to right field made a loser out of Tech reliever Keith Fleming, 2-1.
Auburn's Scott Tillery, 3-1, picked up the win with four innings of work in relief of starter Charlie Smith, who made his first start of the season.
Tech jumped out in front with four runs in the first inning, but Auburn countered with three of its own in the bottom of the inning.
The Yellow Jackets built a 6-3 lead with two more runs in the third. But Auburn tied the score with three runs in the fifth on run-scoring singles by by David Plumb and Jeff Livesey.
Livesey then gave the Tigers a 7-6 lead when he scored in the seventh on a single by Wilson.
Tech sent the game into extra innings when Frank Bolick hit a solo homer in the eighth.
The victory improved Auburn's record to 30-18, while Tech fell to 29-18.
