NEW YORK (AP) _ Joan Rivers, who had a brief and frustrating run as host of the Fox Network's late-night talk show, will be joining ''Hollywood Squares'' this fall, it was announced Friday.

Rivers will be the permanent center square when the show's fall season begins Sept. 14, said publicist Cindy Schneider of The Lippin Group.

Rivers left Fox's ''Late Show'' in May after being permanent host for eight months. She said she was fired; Fox said it hoped to work out an agreement for her to continue as permanent guest host, a role she formerly played on NBC's ''Tonight Show.''
