Road to reservoir near Payson closed due to low water levels

CLINT'S WELL, Ariz. (AP) — A reservoir north of Payson that's popular with locals for kayaking and fishing is closed to vehicle traffic because of low water levels.
The Coconino National Forest announced Thursday that it has closed the only road leading to C.C. Cragin Reservoir. Formerly known as Blue Ridge, the reservoir is 22 percent full, a stark change from last year when it was completely full.
Forest spokesman Brady Smith says it's unlikely the reservoir will be replenished. That means it could be closed to vehicles for the season.
The community of Payson has been working on a project to pipe water from the reservoir.
The Salt River Project also draws from the reservoir but says it will postpone operations.
People can walk to the reservoir from a trailhead a mile away.
