CINCINNATI (AP) _ Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox was ejected by plate umpire Bill Welke for arguing balls and strikes from the dugout during the third inning Tuesday night against the Cincinnati Reds.

It was Cox's fourth ejection of the season, but not his earliest. He was tossed in the first inning against the Diamondbacks on May 4 in Arizona.

Atlanta starter Greg Maddux disagreed with one of Welke's calls, setting off Cox. Maddux got two strikes on Cincinnati's Adam Dunn, then barely missed inside with his next pitch.

Maddux, trailing 5-1 at the time, stood and stared at Welke, who removed his mask and yelled something out to the mound. Welke then turned his head toward the dugout, listened for a few moments and ejected Cox, who scuffed the dirt around home plate with his shoes before leaving.
