Pocatello officials search for baby possibly thrown in river
Dec. 29, 2017
POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) — Authorities said they're checking surveillance cameras after emergency responders did an extensive search of an Idaho river for a baby who was reportedly thrown from a bridge.
Pocatello police tell the Idaho State Journal that they're continuing to investigate Friday following the Thursday night search along the Portneuf River.
Police say a witness reported seeing a woman throw what appeared to be a baby wrapped in a blanket over an 8-foot fence into the waterway, then continued walking.
Police officers and firefighters searched along river's banks using flashlights and night-vision equipment but did not find any signs of a baby. Authorities went more than a mile downstream during the search, with some vehicles positioned to shine their lights onto the water.
Police say the search was difficult with many downed trees and branches in the waterway.
