MONTVILLE, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a man has died after being pulled from a northern New Jersey river.

The man was found around 12:20 p.m. Thursday in the Rockaway River in Montville. He apparently had been swimming in the area, but it wasn't clear if he was alone or with others.

Morris County prosecutors would not release the man's name or provide further details on his death, citing the ongoing investigation.

Authorities note that there have been at least seven drownings in New Jersey this month. The most recent occurred Monday night in Monmouth County, when a 42-year-old Pittsburgh man died after entering the ocean off Ocean Grove.
