ST. LOUIS (AP) — Firefighters have found a man's body while fighting a blaze in a St. Louis apartment that was supposed to be vacant.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the fire started Sunday night in a building that contained apartments and stores in the Baden neighborhood. Police have labeled the victim's death as "suspicious" until a cause is determined. His name wasn't immediately released.
The owner of the building, Gerald Graves, said he was rehabbing the apartments, and his wife planned to open an ice cream shop on the ground level. He says he's struggled with break-ins and squatters despite efforts to keep the building secure.
