Man wanted by local police caught near Mount Vernon
Oct. 24, 2017
MOUNT VERNON, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say a man who has been on the run from law enforcement for weeks has been arrested in the Mount Vernon area.
The Skagit Valley Herald reports 26-year-old Curtis Cameron was arrested Monday evening in a wooded area after evading authorities for hours.
Authorities say Cameron — who twice evaded law enforcement last week — was wanted by local police on felony warrants including for explosives, assaults and burglaries.
Mount Vernon police Lt. Greg Booth says a deputy recognized Cameron inside a vehicle he had stopped Monday afternoon. Police say Cameron jumped from the car and ran.
Police say the ensuing search involved officers, police dogs, boats and a helicopter. Police say tear gas was used to get Cameron to leave an area of thick blackberry bushes.
Police say he surrendered after climbing a tree and talking with negotiators.
He was booked into Skagit County jail.
