Aug. 07, 2018
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — A Tucson man accused of beating a 2-year-old boy in 2015 and leaving the child with brain damage has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Pima County Superior Court officials say Peter Schmidtfranz was convicted last month of child abuse under circumstances likely to cause death or serious physical injury.
Prosecutors say Schmidtfranz was dating the boy's mother when the child was injured.
The Arizona Daily Star reports that the woman found her son unresponsive and called 911.
Authorities say the boy sustained injuries consistent with abusive head trauma.
