Gearhart latest coast city to consider beach wheelchairs
Jul. 13, 2018
GEARHART, Ore. (AP) — Cannon Beach, Manzanita and Seaside all provide beach wheelchairs for people with disabilities.
Gearhart could be the next North Coast city to try it.
The Daily Astorian reports that the man who helped start the Seaside program went the Gearhart City Council this week to propose a similar service. Randy Anderson also offered to launch the Gearhart program with the donation of a wheelchair.
Gearhart Mayor Matt Brown said he's very interested in seeing the idea come to fruition.
Seaside's beach wheelchair program opened for free public rentals in July. The first person to use it was a 16-year-old girl.
