MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) _ A man apparently upset over his arrest on a domestic violence charge fatally shot his 6-year-old son's mother, two of her friends and then himself, police said Thursday.

Neighbors told police they heard gunshots Wednesday night and went to help the child, who sat crying on a sidewalk in front of the home.

The boy saw the first killing and told neighbors that ``his father was shooting people inside the home,'' homicide police Lt. Joe Scott said.

James Hudson, 35, had been arrested on a domestic violence charge involving the boy's mother, Jennifer Braddock. He was released from jail on bond Aug. 16.

Armed with a gun, he broke into Braddock's home and fatally shot 55-year-old William Norman during an initial confrontation. He then continued through the house and within minutes shot to death Braddock, 30, Jennifer Jones, 37, and then himself, police said.
