They'll be no homecoming for former Gamecocks coach

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — They'll be no homecoming for College of Charleston baseball coach Chad Holbrook.
The home of the minor league Columbia Fireflies said Thursday it would host the game when the Cougars played South Carolina on May 9. The contest looked like a return for Holbrook to his former home field after spending five seasons as the Gamecocks coach.
Holbrook was let go this past June. He was hired a short time later by the Cougars.
South Carolina hired Mark Kingston to replace Holbrook.
The Fireflies, a Class A franchise for the New York Mets, said part of the game proceeds will go to Palmetto Health Children's Hospital.
South Carolina athletic director Ray Tanner said playing in the minor-league stadium is an opportunity to take part in an important fundraising contest.
