Theft of light pole copper wiring rising in North Las Vegas
Mar. 04, 2018
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police in North Las Vegas say the theft of copper wiring from city light poles has been on the rise this year.
Since New Year's Day, the city has had 12 reports of copper wire theft from city light poles for more than $225,000 in damage.
Police tell KNSV-TV that the stolen wire has no unique identifiers and many times the plastic is stripped so recycling companies that buy the wire have no way to know if the wire is city property.
Most thefts occurred during nighttime hours on streets with little to no traffic.
North Las Vegas police are asking for the public's assistance in apprehending the person or persons responsible for the copper wiring thefts.
