WASHINGTON (AP) _ Children, parents and teachers can gain access to historical documents, math problems, paintings and other educational materials from federal sources at a single web site, the Education Department said Wednesday.

The new site, Federal Resources for Educational Excellence, serves as a clearinghouse for information from 35 agencies and enables thousands of topics to be searched, Education Secretary Richard Riley said. The site covers 12 subject areas, including the arts, foreign languages, math, science and vocational education.

The free web site is at http://www.ed.gov/free.
