Rangers' Rodriguez to Have Surgery
Apr. 08, 2002
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) _ Texas Rangers reliever Rich Rodriguez will miss at least two months following surgery on his left shoulder to correct a circulatory problem in his pitching hand.
Rodriguez, 0-1 with a 20.25 ERA in three relief appearances, went on the disabled list Saturday.
Tests revealed an injury to a small artery near his left shoulder that causes small blood clots to break off and travel to his hand and fingers. The result is decreased circulation in his fingers.
The surgery will be performed Thursday by Dr. Greg Pearl at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. Pearl performed left shoulder surgery on pitcher Kenny Rogers last summer.
The team said the 39-year-old Rodriguez, who was acquired from Atlanta on March 25, will soon be transferred to the 60-day disabled list.
