BURT REYNOLDS - REACTION

UNDATED (AP) — Many have offered their reactions to the death of actor Burt Reynolds:

— "Quinton and I are extremely touched by the tremendous outpouring of love and support from friends and family throughout the world. Burt was a wonderful director and actor. He was a big part of my life for twelve years and Quinton's loving father for 30 years. We will miss him and his great laugh." — Loni Anderson and Quinton Anderson Reynolds, Burt Reynolds' ex-wife and son, in a statement to the AP.

— "Burt Reynolds was one of my heroes. He was a trailblazer. He showed the way to transition from being an athlete to being the highest paid actor, and he always inspired me. — "Oh how sad I am today along with Burt's millions of fans around the world as we mourn one of our favorite leading men. I know we will always remember his funny laugh, that mischievous sparkle in his eyes, and his quirky sense of humor. You will always be my favorite sheriff, rest in peace my little buddy. — "Rest in peace to a legend and a friend." — Mark Wahlberg, via Twitter.

— "A sad day, my friend Burt Reynolds has passed away. I remember him back in 1979, he always reminded me that I should've cast him as Colonel Trautman in 'First Blood,' I said that's impossible, because you're too expensive and too famous, and probably tougher than Rambo! He laughed, He had a great sense of humor and I enjoyed his company so much... RIP Buddy." — Sylvester Stallone, on Instagram.

"Burt Reynolds, you are the glorious dictionary definition of a golden man. Thank you for spreading your glow." — Lena Dunham, on Twitter.

ACADEMY AWARDS SUSPENDS PLAN FOR NEW OSCAR

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Oscars have walked back plans to have a new Academy Award for popular films. The motion picture academy says it's suspending the idea — after it got serious pushback on it. For now, the academy says it will do further study on the category before rolling it out. Many in and outside of the film industry felt the new Oscar for popular films would affect films like "Black Panther," which was commercially popular — and is being looked at as a possible contender for best picture.

"PREDATOR" SCENE CUT

TORONTO (AP) — Steven Wilder Striegel was supposed to have a scene in the upcoming movie "The Predator." But no more. Twentieth Century Fox has cut the scene from the movie after learning the actor is a registered sex offender. Word of the edit came hours before the film was to make its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival yesterday. Fox says it didn't know about the actor's history because of legal imitations on running background checks on actors.

TERRY CREWS SETTLES WITH AGENT HE ACCUSED OF GROPING HIM

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Terry Crews and Adam Venit have agreed to settle a lawsuit in which the actor claims the agent groped him at a Hollywood party. Venit's agency William Morris Endeavor — which was also named as a defendant in the case — has confirmed the lawsuit has been dismissed. Crews filed the civil suit on Jan. 30, saying Venit grabbed and squeezed his crotch at a 2016 party. Crews was among the most prominent men to come forward as a victim in the #MeToo movement. Venit denied the allegations — and prosecutors declined to file criminal charges in the case.

NEW YORK (AP) — There's word that CBS chief Les Moonves is talking about a possible exit strategy from the network. The Wall Street Journal reports Moonves is in talks with independent directors of CBS' board about leaving. The network had appointed two law firms to investigate Moonves for sexual misconduct claims spelled out in a July article in the New Yorker. CBS didn't return a request for comment.

CHARGES FILED IN SONY PICTURES HACK

WASHINGTON (AP) — Remember the massive data hacking at Sony Entertainment nearly four years ago? The Justice Department has filed charges in the case. The Feds have charged a computer programmer working on behalf of the North Korean government with the hacking. The suspect is also charged in two other major cybercrimes: the massive Wannacry ransom-ware attack last year and an $81 million theft from a bank in Bangladesh.
