MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho (AP) _ An Air Force team today reached the remote crash site of an F-15E Strike Eagle which went down near McDermitt, Nev., on a training mission.
The fate of the two crewmen aboard remained unknown. The fighter from the Idaho base crashed about 9:20 p.m. Wednesday. The F-15E was assigned to the 391st Fighter Squadron.
Air Force Staff Sgt. Sonja Whittington said the jet crashed in rugged terrain about 80 miles southwest of the base, far from access roads. It took over six hours for the team to reach the site.
``Our No. 1 priority is to save lives, and very close behind that is to secure the scene so the accident site, to use a police term, isn't `contaminated' by anybody,'' Whittington said.
