Police probe Salvation Army break-in in Belleville
Apr. 05, 2013
BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) — Police are investigating the burglary of a Salvation Army store in the southwestern Illinois city of Belleville.
KMOV-TV (http://bit.ly/16sYuHa) reports someone broke into the store about 2:30 a.m. Thursday, stealing items that included a DVD player, DVDs, video games and other electronics.
Salvation Army Maj. K. Kendall Mathews calls the crime "a travesty" that perhaps was carried out by the very people the organization tries to help.
He says the Salvation Army now is left with no choice but to pursue prosecution "instead of being the hand up they most desperately need."
