LAWRENCE, Mass. (AP) — A man who was found guilty last month of shaking and throwing his then-3-month-old son inside motel room has been sentenced to nine to 15 years in state prison.
Lawrence Superior Court Judge Mary Ames found 30-year-old Daniel Green guilty of assault and battery on a child causing substantial bodily injury in a jury-waived trial last month. He was sentenced Thursday.
Green's son was hospitalized in November 2012 with injuries including bleeding on his brain and retinas that caused significant vision loss and developmental delays.
Prosecutors said Green, angry with the baby's crying, either shook or threw him while the family was living in a Danvers hotel. The defense said Green wasn't alone with the baby long enough to injure him.
Green's wife is scheduled to stand trial in January.
