JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A former Jackson police officer has been indicted for allegedly embezzling fuel.
Authorities say 27-year-old Samuel Lockwood was fired as a result of the allegation.
Lockwood is accused of taking over $1,000 in fuel. He was investigated after the police department's fuel tracking system found that he used an excessive amount.
The Hinds County Detention Center's website says Lockwood was arrested Monday. No bond had been set as of Saturday.
Police Chief Lee Vance tells WJTV-TV that officers are not above the law. He says those who break the law will be treated just like anybody else who does the same.
