Australia's Philippoussis Injured

ADELAIDE, Australia (AP) _ Mark Philippoussis will not play in Australia's Davis Cup quarterfinal against Germany because of a calf injury, team captain John Newcombe said Monday.
Philippoussis, injured two weeks ago in Indian Wells, Calif., will be replaced by grass-court specialist Wayne Arthurs in the matches that start Friday.
``It's unfortunate that Mark can't be here, but we have to think long term, and it's important not to put him at risk this weekend,'' Newcombe said.
Tommy Haas, Germany's top Davis Cup player, withdrew Sunday because of a hip injury.
Newcombe has hinted that two-time U.S. Open winner Pat Rafter could play. Rafter underwent shoulder surgery in October.
``Pat's looking good and we wouldn't be frightened to put him in,'' Newcombe said.
Philippoussis and Lleyton Hewitt were expected to play singles, with Rafter easing back into Davis Cup by combining with Mark Woodforde in the doubles.
