TAMPICO, Ill. (AP) — A northern Illinois historical society is getting ready to unveil a statue of a young Ronald Reagan after years of trying to raise $50,000 to pay for the project.

The (Sterling) Daily Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/13pWcwS ) the Tampico Area Historical Society will unveil the statue this fall. The Illinois native was the nation's 40th president.

Organizers spent years trying to raise $50,000 to pay for the piece, sculpted by Iowa artist Ted McElhiney.

No date has been set for the formal unveiling, but the statue should arrive in Tampico next month.
