LOGAN, Utah (AP) _ Rasul Salahuddin scored 24 points as Long Beach State rolled to a big halftime lead and coasted to a 71-50 victory over Utah State Saturday night.
Salahuddin scored 15 of his points in the first half for Long Beach (15-9 overall, 10-5 in the Big West Conference).
Utah State (13-13, 7-7) had led 10-6 after four minutes of play, but the 49ers went on a 19-4 run to take a 25-14 lead and never looked back. James Cotton scored seven points and Brian Yankelevitz added five during the scoring spurt.
Jon Wickizer's 3-pointer for the Aggies temporarily slowed the 49ers, but then Salahuddin countered with 10 points in the final nine minutes of the first half to put USU away.
Long Beach shot 64 percent in the first half while holding USU to 44 percent. 43-29 lead at halftime.
The Aggies had one run left. Trailing 49-35, Silas Mills hit a 3-pointer, Wickizer and Eric Franson made layups and Jeramaine Womack had a steal and dunk to cut the margin to 51-45 with 7:39 remaining.
But following a timeout, Salahuddin scored seven straight points to open the 49ers' lead to 58-45 with 4:45 remaining to play.
USU could get no closer than 12 points the rest of the way.
Long Beach had only one other scorer in double figures, Cotton with 14 points. Mills led USU with 12 points, while Justin Jones had 10.
Franson scored just six points, ending a 56-game streak in which he had scored in double digits.
