JERUSALEM (AP) _ Israeli forces moved into the Palestinian village of Beit Jalla late Tuesday, Israel army radio reported, after Palestinians in the village fired at a nearby Jewish neighborhood earlier.

The Israeli military had no immediate comment. It would be the second Israeli incursion into Palestinian territory in less than a day.

Early Tuesday, Israeli tanks and bulldozers rolled into Jenin, in the northern West Bank, destroyed the police headquarters building and withdrew.

The Jenin raid marked the first time Israeli tanks entered a Palestinian-controlled city since Israel turned civilian control of West Bank cities to the Palestinians in 1995, a year after the Palestinian Authority was established according to interim peace agreements.

The raids followed two suicide bomb attacks against Israelis that left 16 dead and dozens injured.
