INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) _ Gary Galley scored with five seconds left in overtime to lift the Los Angeles Kings to a 3-2 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday night.
Vladimir Tsyplakov's goal at 8:23 of the second period tied the score at 2-2 for the Kings, who trailed 2-0 at one point.
Goaltender David Aebischer, seeing his first action of the preseason, made 41 saves to keep the Avalanche in the game. Colorado was outshot 44-18.
Joe Sakic and Sandis Ozolinsh scored 1:39 apart in the second period to give Colorado a 2-0 lead.
Defenseman Rob Blake scored on a power play at 11:05 of the period to bring Los Angeles within a goal.
The game was the first experience for both teams with the NHL's new overtime procedure, in which the teams use only four skaters.
The Kings are 2-0 in exhibition play. Colorado dropped to 0-3.
Los Angeles was missing veteran right wing Donald Audette and defenseman Frantisek Caberle with hip flexor injuries. Defenseman Philippe Boucher has yet to take part in training camp because of a foot injury he suffered at the end of last season.
Colorado is still missing three of its top players, goaltender Patrick Roy (hip surgery), center Peter Forsberg (shoulder surgery) and left wing Shjon Podein (sprained knee).
