Soviet Cultural Attache Aid to be Expelled from Spain
Jan. 15, 1985
MADRID (AP) _ A Soviet embassy employe has been expelled from Spain, sources at the Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.
The sources identified him as Yuri Kolesnikov, an aide to the cultural attache at the Soviet embassy, but would not say why he was expelled. They said he left Spain last Friday.
Kolesnikov was the thirteenth Soviet diplomat expelled from Spain since the two countries resumed diplomatic relations in 1977.
In the previous 12 cases, the government said the diplomats were involved in activities unrelated to their jobs.
The news of Kolesnikov's expulsion came hours after the Spanish national news agency EFE said Soviet Foreign Minister Andrei A. Gromyko will make an official visit to Spain in February.
The Foreign Ministry did not confirm the report.
