MIAMI (AP) _ Ian Bishop, a 35-year-old midfielder with Manchester City in England's Premier League, was acquired Thursday by Major League soccer and assigned to the Miami Fusion.

Bishop, 35, has 18 years of professional experience in England, scoring 32 goals in 534 games.

Bishop, who first played for Manchester City in 1989, has also spent time with Crewe Alexandra, Everton, Carlisle, Bournemouth and West Ham. Bishop rejoined Manchester City in 1998.

To comply with Major League Soccer rules which allow only three senior international players per roster, the Fusion waived Brazilian striker Welton.

Welton had 12 goals and 13 assists in 46 regular season games with the Fusion.
