TRENTON, N.J. (AP) _ Democrat Frank Lautenberg has widened his lead over Republican Douglas Forrester in the New Jersey senate race, according to a new poll.

The Quinnipiac University poll released Monday gives Lautenberg a 50 percent to 39 percent lead among likely voters. The survey of 574 likely voters, taken from Oct. 28 to Nov. 3, has a sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

A previous Quinnipiac poll, released Oct. 22, had Lautenberg with 52 percent to Forrester's 43, with the same margin of error.

The results of the latest poll mirror those of four other polls released Sunday. They all gave Lautenberg the lead, but varied on his margin of comfort.

Lautenberg, 78, took over the Democratic spot on the ballot after Sen. Robert Torricelli dropped out of the race.
