BOSTON (AP) — Hungry hopefuls in Boston will be competing for a shot at international hot-dog-eating glory.
A qualifying event for Nathan's Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog-Eating Contest will draw competitors to the city's Seaport District on Sunday afternoon.
The top male and female finishers will be invited to compete at the ESPN-televised finals at Coney Island in New York City on July 4.
Boston's event is one of 18 qualifiers across the country this year. It's being held as part of Sail Boston, a six-day celebration of the city's maritime history.
Another qualifying event is scheduled for Sunday at the Citi Field stadium in Queens, New York.
American competitor Joey Chestnut won last year's finals by downing 70 hot dogs and buns.
