Chelsea To Spend Time With Father
Jan. 30, 1998
WASHINGTON (AP) _ After a rough week for Dad, Chelsea Clinton flew home from California Thursday night. She and President Clinton were to escape to the seclusion of Camp David, aides said.
The college freshman made the cross-country flight just for the weekend, as there is no holiday from classes at Stanford University. A spokeswoman pooh-poohed any suggestion that the daughter's homecoming had anything to do with this week's sensational headlines.
``For some weeks, they've known that her mom is going to be out of town and this would be a chance to spend some time with Dad,'' said Marsha Berry, a spokeswoman for first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, who was traveling to Switzerland for an economic conference.
``It's just a chance to come home, spend some time at home,'' Berry said.
Chelsea, her father, some high-school friends and other family members were expected to leave Friday night for Camp David, the president's secluded mountaintop retreat.
