2 charged with assaulting officers during protest miss court
Sep. 21, 2017
Two men charged with assaulting law enforcement officers while protesting a Confederate Memorial Day rally missed their court date, in an apparent miscommunication.
The Times-News of Burlington reports 37-year-old Rann Baron and 34-year-old William Anthony Hood missed their court date Wednesday.
The Alamance County Sheriff's Office and Graham police say Baron struck Sheriff Terry Johnson with a flagpole after Johnson tried to stop him from burning a flag during the Industrial Workers of the World's protest against Taking Back Alamance County's May rally. This led to a struggle between officers and IWW members, in which Hood is charged.
Hood and Baron are represented by prominent lawyer Marty Rosenbluth, who told Assistant District Attorney Corey Santos he was out of state. Santos continued the case for two weeks, as a professional courtesy.
