GOSHEN, N.Y. (AP) — A New York boxing club owner is among the good Samaritans credited with pulling a couple from their vehicle just before it burst into flames after being pinned under a truck.
State police say 79-year-old Alejandro Rivera, of Middletown, was driving on Route 17 in Goshen Sunday afternoon when his vehicle blew a tire and swerved into the path of a tanker truck hauling liquid sugar.
The car got pinned under the truck, trapping Alejandro and his 82-year-old wife Carmen.
Westchester Boxing Club owner Nick Delury tells WCBS-TV in New York City that he was headed home from the Catskills when he came upon the crash.
He pulled the woman from the crushed car and then helped rescue her husband. Moments later the car burst into flames.
The couple suffered serious injuries but is expected to recover.
