BALI, Indonesia (AP) _ U.S. Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova won the Wismilak International on Sunday, defeating Germany's Marlene Weingartner 6-1, 6-4 to advance to No. 5 in the rankings. This was the Russian's second straight title and the fifth in her WTA Tour career. She also won on this resort island in 2002.

``It was tough to go all the way through after coming from the U.S. Open,'' said Kuznetsova, who was seeded second and will move up a spot when the new rankings are released.

Weingartner, unseeded and ranked No. 67, was playing in her first tour final. She faced a barrage of forehands in the opening set and quickly trailed 5-0. She had several excellent winners in the second set and forced a break point, but Kuznetsova saved it with a backhand volley.

Kuznetsova broke serve in the seventh game when Weingartner netted a weak backhand. The 19-year-old Russian then served out the match.

``I played well the first set, but Marlene couldn't find anything to play against me,'' Kuznetsova said. ``In the second set she played better. She ran much more, but I was still making her run to see if she could handle it.''
