NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Five people have been indicted in the death of a toddler killed more than six years ago in New Orleans.
Orleans Parish District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro's Office identifies the five as members of the 3-N-G gang. Each of them faces first-degree murder charges in the shooting death of Keira Holmes. Authorities have said she was an unintended victim of gang-related gunfire at a housing development on Dec. 18, 2011, just days before her second birthday.
Four of the five are already serving prison terms on other convictions. The prosecutors' news release says the indictment was unsealed Friday after the fifth suspect in Holmes death was arrested in Texas by U.S. marshals and Harris County deputies. The five also are charged with conspiracy to commit murder of rival gang members.
