NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) — A man has been charged with drunken driving in connection to a Rhode Island crash between his Jeep and a moped carrying two people.

The Newport Daily News reports 34-year-old Grahm Lewis Sisson of California has been charged with the felonies of driving under the influence and leaving the scene of a police call on Friday night.

One person on the moped suffered severe injuries and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital. The second person was taken to Newport Hospital.

Police were called to Newport on Friday shortly before 11:20 p.m. for reports of the collision. Police say Sisson left the scene of the crash before he was detained, and taken to Newport Hospital with slurred speech. An attorney for Sisson could not be found through electronic court records.
