Six Bodies Found in Okla. Apartment
Feb. 13, 1999
TULSA, Okla. (AP) _ A man shot his estranged girlfriend, their three young children and his mother before turning the gun on himself, police said Friday.
Police found all six bodies in the living room of a small apartment. There were no signs of a struggle or that anyone had tried to flee the room. Authorities feel certain it was a murder-suicide because the gun was located near the body of the children's father, 23-year-old Edwin Bell.
``The information we had is that he came over to pick the children up and it happened then,'' Officer Andy Phillips said. ``There are bodies all over the room. I don't think they had a chance.''
Police identified the victims as Bell's mother, Linda Farris, 45; Markita King, 21; and Ebony, 4, Essyce, 2, and 8-month-old Marjonna Bell.
Ms. King apparently had moved to Tulsa to get away from Bell in Oklahoma City, Phillips said. Bell and his mother had traveled together to Tulsa to visit the children.
``We haven't discovered any notes or have any motive at all,'' Phillips said.
Robert Hunter, a 43-year-old father of five, shook his head sadly at the crime scene.
``There ain't nothing in the world bad enough to make you want to do something that bad to your kids,'' he said. ``To anybody.''
