COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) _ A state trooper was struck and killed Friday by a motorist who later surrendered to authorities, officials said.
Authorities charged Jamie Schoen, 26, of Grove City with aggravated vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident, said state Highway Patrol Lt. David Peters.
Schoen turned himself in at the Franklin County Courthouse in Columbus on Friday afternoon, Peters said. He was being held in the county jail.
Trooper Wendy Everett died of multiple injuries about 8 a.m. at Grant Medical Center, about eight hours after she was struck on Interstate 270, said Crystal Fletcher, a dispatcher at the patrol's Columbus headquarters.
Ms. Everett had stopped a tractor-trailer rig for a traffic violation on the interstate near Columbus when a car ran off the road and hit both her and her cruiser, Ms. Fletcher said.
