Man Lures Ex-Wife to Airport to Kill Her, Then Shoots Self
Mar. 20, 1991
EL PASO, Texas (AP) _ A recently divorced man lured his ex-wife to the airport with a story about a final farewell and shot her to death as she ran screaming through the terminal. He then killed himself.
Yong Hui Crockett, who had remarried, was killed Tuesday by Quintan Lamont Hannah, police said.
''He told her he was joining the Army and wanted to see (his 3-year-old daughter) for the last time,'' police Capt. J.R. Grijalva said.
Her husband and two children from her first marriage, ages 1 and 3, witnessed the shooting near the airport's baggage claim area, Grijalva said.
Pat D'Angelo, a worker at a car rental counter, said she saw Mrs. Crockett run into the terminal, screaming.
''He ran in and shot her twice, and then lay down and shot himself,'' D'Angelo said. ''It was very quick.''
Mrs. Crockett, 34, was divorced from Hannah, 30, in November.
Hannah fired once and missed, then fired another shot, Grijalva said.
''She was trying to get away from him,'' he said. ''She was hit in the back; we think it was in the back of the head.''
A car rental employee was hit in the leg by a stray bullet that pierced the counter. He was hospitalized in stable condition.
Theresa Laraba, a Southwest Airlines supervisor, said about 50 people were in the terminal lobby when the shooting occurred.
''The ticket agent yelled for everybody to get down,'' she said. ''People were jumping behind the ticket counter to get down because the didn't know what to do next.''
