ELDORA, Iowa (AP) — A central Iowa police chief's suspension because of an off-duty incident has been cut short.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports that Eldora Mayor Bob Jeske says Chief Mike Ludwigs will return to work Wednesday instead of next Tuesday. Jeske says the city council members requested that Ludwigs' suspension be shortened, or they would "take it to a vote."

Jeske says the incident occurred last Thursday when Ludwigs was off duty but still in uniform and driving his patrol car. Jeske says Ludwigs stopped another officer in the middle of a street and argued with the officer. Jeske described the incident as "berating an officer in public view."

A home phone listing for Ludwigs couldn't be found Wednesday. He didn't immediately respond to a message left at his office.
