WASHINGTON (AP) _ Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., was admitted to a hospital Sunday morning for a viral condition after complaining of back and shoulder pain, an aide said.

Kennedy, who turns 68 on Feb. 22, was comfortably ``resting in good spirits'' at Sibley Memorial Hospital, spokesman Will Keyser said. The senator had a cough and fever Saturday and was driven to the hospital Sunday morning.

He was expected to remain overnight, Keyser said.
