TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) _ Glenn Braggs drove in three runs and shortstop Gary Sheffield collected three hits as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Seattle Mariners 5-3 Thursday in a Cactus League game.
Braggs tripled home two runs in a three-run fifth inning as the Brewers took a 5-1 lead off Mariners ace left-hander Mark Langston. Darrell Hamilton doubled to lead off the fifth inning, reached third on Sheffield's bunt single and Braggs drove both runners in on his triple to right field. Mike Trujillo replaced Langston and was greeted by a run-scoring double by Rob Deer.
The Mariners scored twice in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Rey Quinones singled and went to third on a single by Harold Reynolds who stole second. Donell Nixon scored Quinones with a sacrifice fly, Reynolds taking third and Alvin Davis drove Reynolds home with a sacrifice fly.
Sheffield, a late insertion into the starting lineup because of Dale Sveum's sore right shoulder, singled, doubled and tripled to lead the Brewers' 11-hit attack.
Mike Birkbeck picked up the victory, allowing four hits over four innings.
Edwin Nunez pitched two perfect innings of relief for Seattle.
