Dukakis Gains In Utah Poll
Jun. 18, 1988
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) _ Democratic presidential candidate Michael Dukakis is closing the gap on Republican George Bush in Utah, a poll released Friday indicates.
The Deseret News-KSL-TV poll found that 47 percent of those polled favor Bush, while 38 percent prefer Dukakis.
A similar poll two months ago found that 51 percent of those questioned favored Bush and 36 percent favored Dukakis.
The survey of 607 Utahns conducted May 31-June 1 has a margin of error of 4 percent.
Bush hopes President Reagan's popularity in western states will help him carry the region this year. Reagan, who won his largest pluralities of any state in Utah in 1980 and 1984, still has a job approval rating of 69 percent here.
